Passed the VCIX-NV yesterday: tips, thoughts and recap

VMware Certified Implementation Expert!

Well, I passed the VCIX-NV yesterday after about 2-3 weeks of study. This may have been one of the toughest certification tests that I have taken, but I appreciated the challenge throughout the process. In support, I don’t focus on NSX so I knew I had to put in more work and study time since I didn’t have any hands on experiencing prior to the Hands on Labs or ICM. Three weeks ago I set my mind to obtaining this certificate, so I scheduled the test before touching the product and gave myself just 3 weeks to sit the exam. I forced myself to binge and soak up as much NSX knowledge as possible in the short period of time. I worked the HOLs a couple of times, build out an entire NSX Lab – attempting to mock everything done in the HOL environments, and then took the ICM to try to solidify my knowledge as well as bridge any additional NSX knowledge gaps.
I actually failed the exam my first time, I missed it by just 8 points but that allowed me to understand what objectives I needed to brush up on. I rescheduled 7 days later since there is a 7 day retake policy – although I had to drive 3 hours out since my local center was booked for almost a month! The first time I took the exam, I was a little flustered by some of the questions and spent entirely too much time on them. I should have known better as with any lab test you should always go through all the questions you know first, then come back to the questions you think you know, and finally attempt the questions you are unsure of last. For some reason, I didn’t do that, and wasn’t able to complete a couple of questions that I definitely knew the answer to, which would have gave me the additional 8 points needed to pass. I sat it again yesterday and was able to fly through the exam and have time to confirm everything before time ran out.
During ICM week I started writing an entire study guide to not only help others, but solidify my knowledge of the subjects and objectives. I was able to complete about 90% of the blueprint, and will finish up the remainder as soon as I can. If you are interested and want to check it out, here the link: VCIX-NV Study Guide. Each objective is a link to a guide on how to accomplish the task, with additional information and documentation as well. I hope this guide helps any one else who is attempting to sit the exam soon. Feel free to give any feedback on it as well! Below are some additional resources I used to prepare.
HOL – NSX Introduction
HOL – NSX Advanced
I also build out an entire personal lab trying to mock the HOL environment as much as possible. I definitely recommend this as it allows you to build up everything from scratch and if you hit any issues, it’s good troubleshooting practice.
Good lucky to anyone sitting the exam!

Hello thank you for your information, but I was wondering how many questions are being examined and where outputs and can find these quiz?
